A Grand Start to 2015

The Australian Open marks the start of the year for tennis fans. Being the first Grand Slam of the year all the top seeded players will be fighting it out for the title. Last year the Men’s Singles was won by Stan Wawrinka who beat out the likes of Novak Djokovic in the Quarterfinals and Rafael Nadal in the Final to win his first ever Grand Slam title.

After his Australian Open win he went on to win his 2nd Gram Slam Title at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters. Wawrinka is currently 4th in the world rankings and he could be looking for 3rd Grand Slam title this year.

Taking a look at the Women of tennis, Victoria Azarenka was the two-time defending champion going into the Australian Open in 2014 but she lost in the Quarterfinals to Agnieszka Radwańska. Radwańska went on to the Semi-finals but lost to Cibulková. Dark Horse Li Na became the first Asian Australian Open Champion after fighting it out with Dominika Cibulková in the final, the match result was 7(7)-6(3) and 6-0.
