2014 ABSA Currie Cup News
  • The South African Rugby Union (SARU) has confirmed that The Absa Currie Cup will host an eight-team Premier Division , a six-team First Division as well as a new qualification stage, for the next two seasons , this following the decision to expand South Africa’s top flight rugby fraternity.

  • As per the new format regulations, the six established unions of South Africa’s Super Rugby franchises (the Blue Bulls, Sharks, Western Province, Free State Cheetahs, Golden Lions and EP Kings) have secured automatic qualification for the Absa Currie Cup for the next two seasons.

  • The very same General Council that facilitated the resolution to feature an eight-team Premier Division also sanctioned a motion to remove the Vodacom Super Rugby promotion and relegation system. This will ensure that the current top five franchises are fixed for the 2015 season.
